At McDougle and Culbreth Middle Schools, we enjoyed working with 6th-8th grade students in their CTE classes to dive into the world of architecture.
We kicked off each workshop with an engaging discussion about the profound ways architecture shapes our surroundings. Together, we explored awe-inspiring architectural landmarks from across the globe and broke down the creative process architects use to bring their ideas to life. Then it was time for the students to take center stage as designers.
Using Lego bricks as their creative tool, the students tapped into their imaginations to craft one-of-a-kind creations. We encouraged them to think outside the box, guiding them to tell the story behind their designs. They described the site, the function of their structures or objects, standout features, and the architectural style, letting their creativity flow freely.
Back in the Prism studio, we took their designs to the next level by blending photos of their Lego models with their design stories using an AI rendering tool. Sharing these dynamic renderings with the class was the highlight, as students saw their creations come to life—bridging the gap between imagination and reality.
These workshops were made possible from the support of the Chapel Hill - Carrboro Public School Foundation.
